The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority has applied for funding to conduct safety reviews on the Parkhill and Morrison dams.
Water and Planning Manager Alec Scott explains safety reviews were conducted in 2004, and that was the first time they had been done since both dams were constructed. That review was done under guidelines issued by the Canadian Dam Association as well as the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Scott says they conducted another review in 2015 after both organizations had updated their standards. This resulted in some things that didn't conform to the new standards.
That includes a geo-technical stability issue at the Morrison Dam and that's scheduled to be addressed this year.
Scott says the consulting fees on that project will be about $9,000 and they've applied for 50 % funding from the MNR to get that project underway.
