Local Rivers, Streams And Creeks Run High All Weekend

Water levels in many local streams and rivers continue to rise Friday and exceed bankfull conditions.

Low-lying areas and roads that are prone to flooding will see washovers.

Stream flows are expected to peak on the smaller watercourses later today, and on the larger rivers tomorrow.   Flows will remain higher than normal into early next week.

Municipal staff continue to monitor local drainage problem areas in case higher rainfall amounts are received.

Residents are reminded to stay away from all watercourses.  The cold water, combined with slippery and unstable stream banks, has created hazardous conditions near all waterways.

The steady rain and high water levels have triggered several local event cancelations on Saturday.

The Rotary Club of Listowel has postponed its Rubber Duck Race at the Listowel Memorial Park.

It's been rescheduled to next Saturday, May 13 in the Listowel Memorial Park, with the Duck Drop at 11am.

The Teeswater Kinsmen Club has cancelled their Saturday fish derby.  It's been rescheduled to next Saturday.

The Seaforth Lions Club has done the same for their fishing derby planned for tomorrow. It's now planned for next Saturday.

And Saturday's Trout Fishing Derby at the Morrison Dam Conservation Area near Exeter has also been postponed.    The Exeter Lions Club and the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority have rescheduled the Trout Derby to next Saturday, May 13.
