Hanover Marks National Day Of Mourning

People gathered in Hanover to mark National Day of Mourning, a day to remember the the thousands of Canadians killed, injured or made ill while on the job.

It's also a day to ensure regulations are in place and followed to ensure workers are as safe as possible in the future. The event is put on annually by the Grey Bruce Labour Council.

Vice President Hazel Pratt-Paige says young workers new to a job are especially at risk.

"They don't want to ask questions, they don't want to seem foolish, they want to really look like they know what they're doing. They're most vulnerable to be injured or killed on the job," says Pratt-Paige.

CUPE is mounting a campaign that calls for mandatory inquests into all deaths in the workplace, whether in the public or private sector.
