Huron County's Economic Development Board has passed a motion asking county council to approve the hiring of a consultant to review the county's governance and it's ability to deliver services into the future.
Chair Jim Lynn suggests the current structure may well put the county in the best position to take advantage of today's opportunities. But the concern is that what worked five years ago, and continues to work today, may not be the optimum governance system for the next five or ten years.
Lynn adds the board also felt that in order to address the question effectively the study should be conducted by an outside source and council's approval is needed to hire a consultant.
Lynn also says the board is not concluding the current system won't be effective in the future but they do feel there's value in asking the question. Their request will now come to Huron County council.
