The South West Local Health Integration Network has voted in favor of supporting a CT Scanner at Hanover District Hospital.
At a meeting in Dutton Tuesday, LHIN Board of Directors voted 7-2 in favor of an amended motion to endorse the CT scanner application.
The news follows a report to the board that stated Grey Bruce was already receiving adequate CT scanner services, as well as projected lost revenue for the neighbouring South Bruce Grey Health Centre in Walkerton, which is projected to be over $270,000 per year.
Over 50 people took a bus to Dutton Tuesday to show support for the Scanner application, after LHIN staff recommended to not support the application.
Hanover's Dave Hocking spearheaded the effort to get community support for the hospital to acquire the scanner. He says it was a widespread show of support. "I was amazed at the post cards that came in. They were coming from Chesley, Mildmay, Neustadt, all over. It was truly Hanover and district support," says Hocking.
The LHIN decision now goes to the Ministry of Health for final approval. Hocking says the hope is the C-T scanner is up and running by the end of the year.
A Hanover couple, Barb and Henry Lansink, has pledged 1.5 million dollars for the scanner at the Hanover hospital. That will completely pay for the machine as well as all the cost of necessary hospital renovations.
