The Owen Sound Attack picked up two defencemen and two wingers in the first-ever Under 18 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.
The draft was for Major Midget players born either in 1999 or 2000.
The Attack picked 19th in each round, using their first pick to select Andre Simard of the Pembroke Lumber Kings. The 6'2" left winger is a native of Stittsville, Ontario. He had 16 goals and 15 assists for the Lumber Kings Midget AAA team this past season.
In a release General manager Dale DeGray describes Simard as a strong, power forward.
"He's a fantastic skater with great hockey sense and we're very pleased that we were able to make him the 19th overall pick."
In the second round the Attack selected Madoka Suzuki from the Quinte Red Devils Major Midget team. The left winger picked up 16 goals and 28 assists over 40 games last season.
Degray called Belleville native a very skilled player: "He's very slippery, very quick, and brings an offensive threat every time he steps on the ice."
Cornwall native Benjamin Dirven was selected in the third round. Going 59th overall, the 6'1" 178 lbs defencemen scored 34 points - 11 goals and 23 assists - with the Cornwall Colts last season. He also had four points in six playoff games.
DeGray called Dirven "a force in the corners" in the media announcement.
"Benjamin has a late birthday and is a bit of a late bloomer, but with his raw tools and fantastic size, there's a tone of potential here."
The Attack's final pick was used to select Temagami native Clark Allair. The 6' 0" defencemen had 10 points in 36 games wit the New Liskeard Cubs and was described by his new coach as "great at managing the puck."
DeGray said, "He's another big body, but has good feet, good awareness and can manage the pace and flow of the game from the back end very well."
