It's the wind that could cause problems on Thursday and heading into the evening throughout the local region.
A strong easterly wind is ahead of a significant storm system that's bring heavy rain to parts of Southern Ontario.
A rainfall warning was previously in effect for Grey County and northern Wellington County, with rainfall amounts of 25 to 35 mm are expected through the day. The warning ended just after 6pm.
The ground, which is almost saturated, has little ability to absorb further rain, so localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas.
As the system intensifies late today, rain will change to snow and the wind will shift to the north.
Gusts of 50 to as high as 80 km/h are expected off of Lake Huron Thursday night. Blowing snow will reduce visibility for drivers. Accumulation of 4-8 cm is forecasted, depending on the track of the storm and the temperature variations.
The combination of ice pellets and wind-whipped wet snow could bring down tree branches and cause power outages.
The strong north-northwest wind is not expected to diminish until Friday afternoon.
