The United Way of Bruce Grey is getting a big hand this year from Bruce Power.
The company hosted the United Way at the site Tuesday as part of its three-year commitment of $1.6-million, including $535,000 this year.
Vice President of Corporate Affairs James Scongack says they have raised $413,000 so far this year, largely through employee payroll deductions, as well as donations from vendors and on-site associations. Scongack adds they hope to reach their fundraising goal within the next couple of weeks.
United Way of Bruce Grey Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says the three-year pledge from Bruce Power is particularly helpful, as it allows for multi-year planning, including helping area food banks provide as much fresh food as possible to those who require it.
She says they would not be able to do it without the ongoing support from Bruce Power's employees.
"Bruce Power has been a longtime supporter with the United Way over many, many years and today just ramping up the campaign and getting everybody behind the work that we're doing really showcases both Bruce Power's support, and the right message that we've brought to the community," says Dobbyn.
Dobbyn says the United Way of Bruce Grey is helping to fund nearly 30 programs across the region this year, including utility assistance and food security programs.
