Patriots Take the Lead in Pollock Division Final

The Mount Forest Patriots topped Walkerton 5-2 in Game 5 to lead the Pollock Division final 3-2.

Walkerton's Reid Simmons opened the scoring midway through the first on the power play but the lead would be short lived. Ryan Maksymyk answered for the Hawks just over five minutes later and Kyle Hunter scored on the power play in the final minute of the frame to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead heading into the third.

Ostop Mostowy would be the only player to score in the second period, putting the Patriots 3-1. Mostowy's goal would stand as the game winner.

Blair Butchart scored on the power play at 7:58 of the final frame to extend the Patriots lead to 4-1 and Brendon Aitken put Mount Forest up 5-1 with a goal at the midway point of the third.

Josh Urbshott scored for Walkerton with just 13 seconds left in regulation.

Mathieu Oullette stopped 22 shots for the Patriots to earn the win. Ryan Winter made 28 saves on 33 shots before being replaced in the third period by Kallen Macumber. Macumber stopped all three shots he faced in relief.

Game 6 goes Friday in Mount Forest at 8 p.m.
