Old Port Elgin Water Control Plant Used For Firefighter Training

The fire department in Saugeen Shores is taking advantage of an old building.

The former Port Elgin Water Pollution Control Plant will be used this month as a live fire training facility.

The building is located a the east end of Port Elgin, on Lehnen St., near the dog park. It's been used for surplus storage for a number of years, but is in extreme disrepair.

Saugeen Shores’ staff will be issuing a public notice of the dates when fire training is scheduled. After the fire training in March, the building will be demolished in April.

"The fire department is thankful for the opportunity presented by Public Works staff," says Fire Chief Phil Eagleson in a news release. "Their collaborative approach brings an excellent training opportunity to further enhance firefighter capabilities."
