Women's House Spokesperson Concerned With Recent Sexual Assault Statistics

A spokesperson for Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey says the high number of sexual assault complaints deemed unfounded by police is frightening.

A recent report found 1 in five cases across Canada were considered unfounded by investigators, with 39% of cases in South Bruce classified as unfounded.

Tiffany Love says the judicial system needs to change, or women will not report sexual assaults.

She says recent statistics from the Canadian Women's Foundation show just how few sexual assault cases are ever prosecuted.

"One of their statistics say half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16. And then, around one in 10 report." She explains.

Love hopes the investigation at least gets people talking about the issue.
