A small business has been fined $10,000 after a worker was killed by the inadvertent movement of a felled tree.
The incident took place in a woodlot located near 931 Concession #2 in Saugeen Shores. The business, owned by William Witter, was contracted to cut and harvest logs at the woodlot on September 10th, 2015. The incident occurred when an employee, working with Witter, fell backwards because of some leftover dead limbs from an ash tree that had been felled. Witter began moving the bulk log with a skidder after the employee gave the okay, and the employee stepped back and fell, becoming unresponsive.
EMS attended the scene, where the employee was pronounced dead. The coroner determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
