Fire Department Of North Huron Losing Chief And FPO

The Fire Department of North Huron is losing two key individuals.

Fire Chief David Sparling is stepping down after three-and-a-half years as fire chief for the municipality, and 25 years of firefighting.

Sparling says it's time for him to start a new chapter.

"For me personally, the amount of time it takes to do the Emergency Services Training Centre job, the fire chief’s job, and the community emergency management coordinator’s job, it’s excessive for my family. So with no immediate changes coming to those positions, I opted to resign and open a new chapter in the book," he says. "I’m very fortunate to have great personnel under me at the fire department. My crews, my officers, all do fantastic work when people call upon them, and as a Fire Chief that is the ultimate reward."

Sparling plans to focus on his family, and the Cowbell Brewing Company in Blyth that he helped launch.

The Fire Department of North Huron is also losing it's fire prevention officer.

James Marshall has accepted a fire prevention position with a career fire service.

Marshall is the only certified fire prevention officer in Huron County and was contracted to North Huron for fire prevention services from Morris-Turnberry.

His last day with the Fire Department of North Huron will be February 3.
