Minto Has Preliminary Budget For 2017

Minto’s proposed $6-million capital budget will go mostly to roads, water and sewer projects, will include an increase of 2.9% in the municipal tax levy.

The budget, which was reviewed by Minto council Tuesday, will be partially paid by $1.68-million in federal/provincial grants as well as $775,000 in borrowing. Just $510,000 will come from local property taxes.

The capital budget includes a new tanker fire truck for Harriston, an ice re-surfacer for Palmerston, and about $500,000 into reserves.

As it stands, the budget, when combined with county and school levies, will add $84 to a home valued at $215,000.

Mayor George Bridge is encouraging Minto residents to attend the budget open house on March 21.
