The OPP has released a safety bulletin about vehicle headlights.
The law requires that vehicle lights -- which include head lights, clearance lights, and tail lights -- be activated half-an-hour before sunset to half-an-hour after sunrise, and any other time when visibility is affected by the environment -- such as rain, fog, blowing snow, or heavy cloud cover.
When driving at times when lights are to be activated, that means all lights must be on, including headlights. Parking lights are only part of a vehicle's lighting system.
According to the OPP, daytime running lights are not enough during low light conditions, as it takes the combination of all lights on your vehicle to help you be seen.
Daytime running lights only assist other motorists seeing you from the front of the vehicle. The rear of the vehicle also needs to be illuminated.
Police also state that certain colours of vehicles are more difficult to see than others, especially during low light conditions.
