Bayfield Ward Councillor Concerned About Growth In The Village

The Bluewater councillor for the ward of Bayfield has some concerns about growth in the village.

Bill Whetstone says uncontrolled or unlimited growth would not be a benefit to the community.  He'd like to see a projection of what maximum growth the current settlement area would allow, and then council or village residents can decide if they really want to reach that maximum.

Whetstone points out that the unique character of Bayfield is what attracts residents and visitors, and that could be lost to unchecked growth.

Whetstone says he is also cautioning against unchecked growth as a means of acquiring more money through assessment, stating that growth also puts more pressure on infrastructure that easily eat up any gains in assessment.

He says wants to see a target that identifies the degree of growth in Bayfield that would provide assessment, without making excessive demands on infrastructure and would not threaten the village's unique character.
