St. Marys Hopes To Hire Stratford Police To Replace OPP Service

St. Marys Council has voted to bring the Stratford Police Service to the community, following a review of alternative police options.

The town began a review in response to concerns about the level of service currently provided by the OPP.

The town requested a proposal from Stratford police, and it offered improved service levels at a reduced cost.

The proposal would include a dedicated officer stationed in town eight hours a day, five days a week, with an additional officer on patrol 24-7.

The savings will be put into a reserve to be used in case of a major police event in St. Marys.

Council has applied to to the Ontario Civilian Police Commission for approval to hire Stratford police, and hope for an answer within the next few months.
