Huron County Holds Back Funding For Blyth Centre

Huron County Council has voted to withhold the first $100,000 payment it had pledged to the Canadian Centre for Rural Creativity in Blyth.

County CAO Brenda Orchard explains the county had agreed to fund the project with $500,000 over five years, but because it's taxpayers' money the county is investing, councillors added two conditions.

They wanted to see a functional business plan and evidence of partnerships to show they were working with other Canadian rural and creative organizations. Orchard points out those partnerships would help them leverage funding from other government sources.

Council was told Wednesday that those conditions have not been met and voted not to release the funding until they were.

The motion did allow for part of the funding to be released if representatives from the Canadian Centre for Rural Creativity requested it to help them meet the conditions.
