The United Way of Perth-Huron has announced the winners of its Youth in Action grants.
Tracy Birtch, director of the Social Research and Planning Council, says $900 will go to the Active Minds at South Huron organization. The organization's goal is to raise awareness of the problems associated with mental illness.
Active Minds intends to use the money to bring guest speakers to the high school to talk about mental illness.
Another grant of $1,000 will go to the hosts of South Huron Nerds Night. Nerds Nights have been hosted in Exeter for about a year now, but the organizers wanted to expand into Huron Park.
Birtch explains a Nerds Night is an opportunity for young people in the community to get together and spend an evening socializing and playing board games in a safe environment.
