The chair of Huron County's Cycling Strategy Steering Committee says she was very pleased to see county council support the strategy as presented to council this week.
Sandra Weber explains the strategy outlines several actions, and the first one they'll act on will likely be the creation of a cycling advisory committee that will provide a plan for moving forward. Weber suggests the first project on their list will be signage throughout the county, as well as route planning and coordinating any possible improvements to infrastructure.
Weber adds paving shoulders is very high on their list, and they appreciate the cost involved in doing that, but she feels in time that's something that can be done in a strategic manner. Weber also says the endorsement from the county will help them in future funding applications, because most funding organizations are more willing to contribute to an organization that has municipal support.
The committee's logo was also introduced at the council meeting. It was created by Hamish Macfie of Bayfield and employs the four letters of the Huron County Cycling Strategy committee in depicting a person on a bike.
