New Use For Former OPP Property in Palmerston

New plans have been announced for the former OPP detachment building in Palmerston.

The County of Wellington has asked for the province's approval for construction of an 11-unit affordable housing building on that site.

The county owns the property on Daly St. in Palmerston, and would like to start construction in the spring.

Provincial and federal funding of $1.5-million has been allocated for the construction of affordable housing for families in Palmerston.

The proposed two-storey building would offer two and three bedroom apartment-style units. Tentative occupancy is early in 2018.

"Creating affordable housing options in the County of Wellington furthers the goals of the ten-year Housing and Homelessness Plan for our community," says Warden George Bridge. "This new affordable housing building will help lower income families close the gap between their incomes and soaring housing costs."
