Walkerton Teacher Recognized By Grey Bruce Labour Council

A Walkerton teacher has been named the Grey Bruce Labour Council's Community Activist of the Year.

Amy Kieffer is with the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board and is their Religion and Family Life Consultant.

She's been heavily involved in the "Me to We" organization, a movement that raises funds to support children in communities around the world.

She's also travelled to South America as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity as well as helping with projects locally.

Kieffer was not expecting to be recognized for her efforts.

"It's just stuff that's part of who I am that I enjoy doing. I never really do it for any kind of recognition but at the same time it's quite an honour," says Kieffer after receiving the award at the Grey Bruce Labour Council's Activist Dinner in Tara.

Amy Kieffer is also involved with the Brockton Refugee Team, helping a family get settled in the area.
