The Huron County Health Unit is reminding residents that this is a good time to test for radon. Radon is a colourless, odourless radioactive gas that is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Health Canada found 11% of randomly selected homes in Huron county tested above the guidelines for Radon in 2012. The only way to find out the radon level in your home is to test for it. Long term exposure to the naturally occurring gas increases your chance of cancer. Radon test kits are available at most major home renovation stores or on line. Health Canada recommends homeowners to the long term test, for at least three months, during fall or winter.
