Centre Grey communities are one step closer to a brand new hospital.
Grey Bruce Health Services today got Ministry of Health and Long Term Care approval for its Stage 2 Submission to rebuild Centre Grey Hospital in Markdale.
The next step is to submit to the province the overall design for the new facility including detailed engineering and architectural drawings.
Grey Bruce Health Services CEO and President Lance Thurston says that document is well underway.
The new hospital will be about 68,000 sq ft, and include four acute care beds, a palliative care room, a procedure room, a 24/7 emergency room, labs, diagnostic imaging, physio and ambulatory care clinics.
Stage 4 will involve working drawings and final costs estimates, and when they are approved the project will go to tender for construction.
“I know our communities and our donors have waited a long time for a new hospital, and we will continue working hard with the Ministry of Health and our LHIN to get the next Submission approved as soon as possible,” says Thurston.
Construction is anticipated to begin in 2018 and will take two years to complete. Updates will be posted on the GBHS website at www.gbhs.on.ca.
