Councillors with the Municipality of Bluewater are going to have to make some difficult decisions very soon regarding Bayfield's wastewater treatment plant.
The system is close to capacity now, and an assumed addition of 20 new units in the village each year is going to push the need for more capacity.
Council has learned that testing on 8% of the system has revealed significant inflowing from leaky pipes and rain water, so testing the entire system and addressing those problems could increase efficiencies and reduce flow.
But they were also told by their consultant at some point there will have to be an addition to the system, and preferably one that will allow them to pump through the winter.
Mayor Tyler Hessel says the cost of testing the system is about $200,000 and they've agreed to do that.
The cost of building on to the system could be between $5-million and $8-million.
