The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation has announced it's first-ever Municipal Forum for the coastal communities along Lake Huron.
The meeting will take place at the Beach Street Station in Goderich next Thursday, October 20th from 10 am to 3pm.
The Centre's Executive Director Matthew Hoy says representatives from the majority of municipalities along the shoreline, from Sarnia to Tobermory, will be attending the one-day forum.
It will include presentations by top scientists as well as local environmentalists, followed by a discussion and planning session.
The Centre, located in Goderich, works with shoreline landowners, conservation authorities and municipalities along the coast to restore dunes, remove invasive species and improve water quality.
According to Hoy, "The purpose of this meeting is to bring together the major decision makers from shoreline communities to discuss how they can work together, and help our organization create a Coastal Action Plan to safeguard the natural shoreline environment."
Hoy has been the Executive Director since July, and wants to mobilize resources in order to help shoreline communities remain resilient against environmental changes such as invasive species, climate change, and fluctuating lake levels.
Staff at the Centre are working to create a Coastal Action Plan to identify areas under environmental stress along Lake Huron and link together the work being done by multiple environmental agencies. The Action Plan will identify how Lake Huron’s stakeholders can work together effectively.
