Grey County Warden Wants One More Term

If he has his way, the warden of Grey County will be sticking around as the head of county council.

Al Barfoot announced during Tuesday's council session that he intends to seek re-election to his second term in the warden's chair on December 6 when county council holds its inaugural session.

Barfoot says there's big issues looming for county council and he wants to see some consistency in the warden's role, especially with the Niagara Escarpment Commission plan changes being proposed.

"Number one is the NEC project that is on right now, I want to make sure that follows through and hopefully to a point where there is no expanded area [in Grey County]," says Barfoot. "I've been working really hard on that."

He says county council's looming decision on its long-term care homes in Durham and Markdale is also one he would like to see through, as well as the county's communication strategy implementation.

Barfoot was acclaimed to the post last December and says he has not heard if any other members of council are interested in the job this time around, adding whatever happens, council will make a democratic decision.
