Grey County OPP is looking into thefts from a charitable organization in Markdale.
Over the last couple of months, police say thefts of donated items intended for the Pennywise Thrift Store has escalated. The store, located on Main St. W in Markdale, is a charitable organization run by volunteers of the Hospital Auxiliary of the Centre Grey Hospital.
Donations consisting of clothing, housewares, toys, furniture and other items are often left in a designated container or beside it on the ground. Police say the donated items left at the store become the lawful property of the charity.
Proceeds from the sale of the items are used to support the hospital and other community projects.
The OPP says individuals removing items are committing theft, and by entering the property after hours are trespassing.
