The Upper Grand District School Board says their students are showing significant gains in many areas of the standardized tests from the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO).
Results from the latest tests show Grade 9 math students making gains, with 47 % of Applied students meeting or exceeding the provincial standard. That's up four percentage points from the previous year, and well ahead of the provincial average of 45%
78% of academic students met or exceeded the standard, compared to an 83% provincial average.
82% Upper Grand students passed the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test.
The number of Primary students with the Upper Grand District School Board meeting provincial expectations in standardized tests is trailing the provincial average.
Release of the 2015-16 EQAO results provides information used by the Board and schools to identify best instructional practices. The data is used by school administrators and teachers to develop school improvement plans with the goal of higher achievement. Strategies that proved most effective in helping struggling students will be noted and shared by curriculum support staff.
“It is encouraging to see our special needs students’ results continue to improve. Students with special needs, as well as students in Applied, ESL/ELD and LDCC courses, will always require targeted support and early intervention – this year’s results speak to the power of assistive technology in the classroom,” said Director of Education Martha Rogers.
The Upper Grand District School Board serves approximately 34,000 students through 65 elementary schools and 11 secondary schools in the City of Guelph, County of Wellington and County of Dufferin
