New Resource Offers Information On Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

The Grey Bruce Health Unit has launched a new resource offering key information about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and local links to offer support.

Thinking Differently -- A Resource in Support of FASD and Neurodevelopmental Differences in Grey Bruce contains information about everything from defining FASD, to outlining supports for children and adults.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is an umbrella term for a range of deficits and challenges caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol.

Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause birth defects and permanent brain damage to the fetus

A 2008 study revealed that four babies in every 100 born in Grey Bruce were exposed to alcohol while in the womb.

The health unit says the disorder can be prevented if mothers avoid alcohol before and during pregnancy.
