Perth County OPP remind residents that iTunes cards are not legal tender.
On Saturday, a Listowel resident who applied for an online loan, got a call from the so called cash advance company to say he was approved for $10,000.
However, the client had to purchase two $250. iTunes cards and supply the verification codes to secure the money.
The resident did not realize it was a fraud until it was too late.
OPP say honest companies and government agencies will never ask you to pay using iTunes or reloadable cards.
They will never ask for money up front for things like a job, or credit.
OPP have received numerous calls from Perth County residents who have fallen victim to scammers asking for iTunes cards to pay for fund owing to organizations such as Canada Revenue Agency.
The Fraudsters use various types of scams in hopes of convincing you of their legitimacy, and getting your cash in a quick, untraceable, irreversible way.
As people learned to suspect scammers using money transfer services, the fraudsters have turned to itunes or similar cards.
