Meaford residents, especially owners of all-terrain vehicles are encouraged to attend a public meeting at 5pm Monday, August 8 in the council chamber.
Council called the meeting to give ATV owners and other residents a chance to comment on a resolution it passed recently. The resolution gives owners of all off-road-vehicles limited access to downtown Meaford.
On July 18, council voted unanimously to accept one of the choices contained in a recommendation by Town Clerk Rob Tremblay.
Tremblay’s recommendation contained three choices. The first choice called for no change in Meaford’s ban against off-road-vehicles in the downtown area of Meaford. The third choice was the exact opposite: This choice allows ATVs to travel on all Meaford roads including the connecting link which runs through downtown Meaford.
Council members rejected both of these choices in favor of the second one. This choice called for staff to identify a route that allows for ATV owners to enter the downtown area for shopping, food and to buy gas for their vehicles. And the route identified was Grey Rd. 12 which links downtown Meaford with Grey Rd. 7.
