The 9th annual Seaforth Country Classic gets underway this morning at the Seaforth Golf and Country Club.
This year's event is a two-day tournament with no cut and Tournament Administrator Carol Anne Doig says they have a field of about fifty golfers, including amateur Paul Doig and first-year professional Robyn Doig. Carol Anne says one of the things the golfers appreciate when they come to Seaforth is the hospitality. Many of them are billeted in local homes rather than staying in motels, and she says that has spawned many friendships that continue today.
Doig adds they have a team of about 70 volunteers ready for the tournament and says no tournament could run without a good team of volunteers, so they're very grateful for the support they get from members and local volunteers.
Doig adds crews have been busy all week getting the course in shape and mother nature has helped so they're ready to go. She says one of the surprises for some golfers will be the grass traps that protect some of the greens. Doig says they've been fluffing that up this week and the grass is long enough now that hitting out of one makes the regular sand traps look pretty inviting.
