Bluewater Official Concerned About Zoning Protocol

The Deputy Mayor of Bluewater has expressed some concerns about the protocol around changing municipal zoning.

After a presentation to council in which a residents stated that the zoning on his property had been changed without his knowledge, Jim Ferguson told council he had heard about that happening to other people as well.

He went on to say that residents had told him during the official plan review the zoning and permitted uses on their property had been changed without their knowledge.

Ferguson added he believes the municipality has an obligation to notify property owners when that is happening so they have an opportunity to comment and have their concerns heard, particularly when permitted uses are being changed.

Ferguson adds he would hope that all municipalities that regularly change zoning without notifying property owners will review that practice.
