Kincardine Renames Clinic After Former Bruce Power President

Kincardine's medical clinic has officially been renamed in honour of the former president and CEO of Bruce Power.

Duncan Hawthorne was on hand for a ceremony on Monday to officially rename the Kincardine Community Medical Clinic as the Hawthorne Community Clinic, in recognition of Hawthorne's contributions to the community during his 15 years at the helm of Bruce Power.

Hawthorne says both he and his family are moved by the honour, pointing out it was an emotional time when he learned the clinic would be renamed, adding those emotions returned on Monday upon seeing his name on the brick.

He says there's added significance that the municipality chose the medical clinic as a way of honour him, pointing out he made supporting health care a top priority for Bruce Power during his time there.

"You know, I tried to mirror that in my personal life too, where I could offer financial support to facilities in the area," says Hawthorne. "So yeah, there is a special meaning to this thing, simply because it's a place people value in this community."

Hawthorne left Bruce Power at the end of April to head up a proposed new nuclear build for Hitachi in his native United Kingdom.
