Work Continues on Goderich-to-Guelph Trail Sections

The chair of the Advisory Committee for the Goderich to Guelph Rail Trail is hoping to raise about $75,000 through a crowdfunding campaign.

Chris Lee says they've already received funding from the Trillium Foundation and that's allowed them to get started on cleaning up the surface between Millbank and the Maitland River near Auburn, as well as putting in some of the smaller bridges and culverts. Additional funding will allow them to do more of the smaller bridges and culverts.

Lee adds there's no shortage of work, so they'll go as far as the funding will take them and hopefully they can raise enough money to work right into the fall.

Lee explains the trail is open now but the conditions vary considerably within that 50 km stretch and there are some detours for cyclists.

Two milestones they're working towards are having the trail as open as possible for the sesquicentennial in July of 2017, and then for the International Plowing Match in Huron County in September of 2017.
