Jewellery And Rifles Among Items Taken In South Bruce Break-Ins

A number of recent break-ins in the Kincardine area have the OPP warning residents to take added precautions.

During the daylight hours of June 17, a residence in the 900-block of Park Place in Huron Township was forcibly entered. The list of items taken includes diamond earrings, gold rings and gold necklaces. The value of the stolen property is estimated to be more than $20,000.

The same day, a residence in the 600-block of Lynden Crescent in Kincardine was forcibly entered. A collection of rings valued at more than $10,000 was taken.

One day later, the OPP investigated a break-in from a residence in the 800-block of Walsh St. in Kincardine. Items taken included a single hand crossbow, gold rings, a coin collection, two flat screen TV's, and two .22 calibre rifles.

Police are asking residents to watch for suspicious vehicles or activity in their neighbourhood, and keep valuables out of sight.  They add you should lock all doors and windows using quality locks and deadbolts on each outside door.

Homeowners should also arrange to keep the grass cut, and have someone collect newspapers and flyers when you are away.  Police also suggest you trim tall shrubs that can create hiding spots for criminals. Outside lighting will also deter unwanted nighttime visitors.

The OPP also suggest engraving identifying marks on valuables.
