The name of the new amalgamated high school in Owen Sound will be Owen Sound District Secondary School.
Bluewater Board trustees approved the naming committee's recommendation Tuesday night.
The naming comes as a result of amalgamating Owen Sound's OSCVI and West Hill Secondary School. All high school students will be going to the West Hill site starting in September.
Superintendent of Education Jean Stephenson says students and parents are getting behind the change.
"The kids seem keen quite honestly. They seem ready. I'm confident they are ready, we've got great leadership at the school. I really do think it's going to be a really good year once people get there and get moving forward," says Stephenson.
School colours, mascot and a nickname for the Owen Sound District Secondary School will be decided at a later date.
In Meaford, Georgian Bay Secondary School will be known as Georgian Bay Community School as of September.
Grade 4-8 students will move into the current high school, while JK to Grade 3 students will move into St. Vincent Euphrasia school. The Meaford Community school will close.
