Huron County has officially scrapped its Huron Ready service. The service was used to notify participating households by telephone in the event of an emergency.
Acting Chief of Emergency Services Jeff Horseman had previously explained to county council that the system had become outdated and redundant, since agencies like the OPP and Environment Canada now used social media to provide notifications.
County council approved the recommendation to shut down the service.
Subscribers are being notified immediately that the service is no longer being used.
Agencies that use the service to call notify staff in the event of an emergency will have until October to find an alternative.
