Historic Gaol in Goderich Looking For Personal Stories

Staff at the Huron County Historic Gaol would like to hear from anyone who has some personal history with the facility before it closed in 1972.

Student Assistant Mac Bonnett says they'd be interested in hearing from people who worked at the gaol as guards or staff, or an inmate, or anyone who might have done contracting work there before it closed.

Bonnett says they've already recorded stories from some family members of staff who worked at the gaol, as well as the story of a woman who volunteered with the Salvation Army and sang to the inmates in the fifties and sixties.

The personal stories will help them with programming in the future and even become an exhibit, but at this point their goal is to gather as much information as possible while it's available.

Anyone with information can contact Mac Bonnett at the Gaol at 524-6971 or email him at mbonnett@huroncounty.ca
