Climate Plan Forces Union Gas To Question Expansion

A Union Gas director suggests the province's climate change action plan has forced the company to re-evaluate $1.5-billion in planned investments.

Ontario's long term energy efficiency targets for new net zero carbon emission small buildings will take effect by 2030 at the latest.

In a letter to South Bruce Council, Union Gas Municipal Affairs Director Lindsay Boyd wants municipalities to push the province to ensure Ontarians can choose affordable energy options.

Boyd says Union Gas has been working for years on an initiative to expand rural access to natural gas, and improve infrastructure to meet growing demand.

Boyd says the time frame to recover costs of investments would need to be much shorter, and would significantly increase costs for Ontario Homes and Business.
