Meaford Fire Training Facility Only A Rental

Meaford and District Fire Department will stop offering courses in firefighting and rescue to other members of other fire departments at its training centre.

Meaford’s committee of the whole has voted to discontinue running the courses for firefighters at the training centre. Instead, the local fire department will rent the use of the training centre to other fire departments. And the Meaford fire department will continue to use the training centre for its own firefighters.

The training centre, a prefab house, was built in 2013 at a cost of $150,000 to Meaford. The firefighters contributed another $19,000 to the project.

Over the past three years, the training centre rental made about $8,500 during the past three years.

But the cost in time and money to marketing the use of the centre however, was much higher.
