Huron East Mayor Interested In More 'Shared Services'

The mayor of Huron East plans to introduce a motion at the next Huron County council meeting to encourage more sharing of services.

Bernie MacLennan would like staff to investigate the potential for the county to assume the role of community emergency management co-ordinator for all of the lower-tier municipalities.

MacLellan explains the job involves a great deal of paperwork that is done now by each lower-tier municipality, but could be done once at the county level - and distributed to each lower-tier council. There would be a significant cost saving to taxpayers.

MacLellan adds there seems to be a consensus that the CEMC position would be a good place to start sharing services, but he would like staff to look into other potential areas where sharing of services might produce significant savings.
