Huron County Reviewing ATV Bylaw

Huron County councillors are in the process of reviewing bylaws regarding the use of ATVs on county roads.

Councillor Jim Ginn represented the Ontario Municipal Association on a Provincial committee that looked at ATV use on roads. He explains a municipality must pass a bylaw to permit ATV use on specific roads within its municipality.

If there is no bylaw then ATVs are prohibited, except for farmers going from one field to another or for trappers.

Ginn says the same regulations apply to county roads.

Huron currently allows ATVs on three sections of Huron County roads, but he adds it has been recommended at county council that that bylaw be rescinded.
