Construction on their new K-12 school won't begin for almost a year, but students at Meaford’s three schools are already voting for a name for it.
They’ve also invited their teachers, parents and other Meaford residents to vote.
Ballot boxes were placed at various locations in Meaford and Thornbury.
GBSS teacher Amy Teed-Acres says three of the most popular names for the new school are Georgian Bay Community School, Georgian Bay District School, and Georgian Shores Community School.
Teachers and students will collect the ballot boxes Friday afternoon.
Meaford Community School closes at the end of next June.
In September, students from Grades 4 to 8 from Meaford Community School will attend Georgian Bay Secondary School.
Students from Kindergarten to Grade 3 at St.Vincent-Euphrasia School will continue to attend that school until the new K-12 school is built.
The students from SVE School will then go to the new school. SVE Elementary and Georgian Bay Secondary schools will then be closed.
