Perth Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece says skyrocketing energy costs are at the top of the list of his constituents' concerns.
Pettapiece shared the results of his feedback survey from his winter newsletter at the Ontario legislature Monday.
Pettapiece says he heard some heartbreaking stories about the impact of high bills on residents, including one couple who had to sell their home because they could no longer afford their hydro bills.
He says residents listed lower energy costs, and reduced government spending as their top two priorities.
“When asked what this government’s top priority should be, two answers dominated the responses: reduce energy costs and reduce government spending. Sadly, this government has done neither during their thirteen years in power," he says.
He says 70 per cent of respondents oppose the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan, and almost everyone was against the new Estate Administration Tax.
88 per cent were concerned with the province's debt, and over 90 per cent say their auto insurance rates never dropped by the promised 15 per cent.
“Speaker, as you may recall, I passed a resolution in this House calling for fair and transparent infrastructure investments, free from political considerations. 98-percent of respondents agreed. The evidence is clear – politics must stay out of infrastructure funding.
“I appreciate this advice, and will continue to stand up for the issues that matter to us in Perth-Wellington.”
