A report Monday by The Globe & Mail concerning the Provincial Government's plan to phase out natural gas to new homes by the year 2030 as part of the Climate Action Plan is not sitting well with some municipalities.
Huron-Kinloss Mayor Mitch Twolan says they've been working hard with the Municipalities of Kincardine and Arran-Elderslie to bring natural gas to the region and Monday's report is nothing short of disappointing.
"It's very disappointing , we've been involved with this process for five years and then to see this and hear this it's very disappointing; at this point we will continue on and see where it goes but what I've read in three weeks this report will be coming out from the Province is what my understanding is," says Twolan.
Twolan, along with the Mayors of Kincardine and Arran-Elderslie, attended a meeting at the Ontario Energy Board just last week to update them on their plan to bring natural gas to the rural Bruce County region.
"Basically explaining to the board the process that Huron-Kinloss, Arran-Elderslie and Kincardine has gone through since the announcement by the province to fund natural gas projects; so we three communities got together and said this is very important for our communities and then to see this report come out today is quite frustrating to say the least," adds Twolan.
Twolan says for now, things will remain business as usual until the OEB (Ontario Energy Board) makes their recommendation to the province.
