Fire Destroys Home Near Mildmay

South Bruce Firefighters were kept busy on Saturday after a home went up in flames just east of Mildmay.

South Bruce Fire Chief Chuck Lobsinger tells CKNX News the home on Bruce Rd. 6 was fully engulfed in flames upon arrival just after 12pm, prompting firefighters to call for assistance from both the Walkerton and Teeswater fire halls.

"We had our other station for tankers and we called mutual aid from Walkerton with a tanker for water," says Lobsinger.

While nobody was home at the time, Lobsinger says it appears that a pet did perish in the blaze.

As for the cause of the fire, Lobsinger says it appears to be accidental at this time.

"That could be something left on, left unattended, that's what it's sort of pointing to," adds Lobsinger.

The house is a total loss with damage estimated to be somewhere in the $300,000 range.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
