Want to Donate? Watch Out for Fake Charities

In the wake of the recent devastating wildfires that displaced thousands of people in Fort McMurray Alberta, officials are sending out a warning to anyone wishing to donate money to charities.

While donating to a cause like those in Fort McMurray is a good thing, officials with the Competition Bureau of Canada say there are scammers out there who may wish to take advantage of a bad situation by posing as a fake charitable organization.

To ensure donations go to legitimate charities, officials are advising you don't give money or financial information to any organization if you have any doubts whatsoever.

Don't click on links you don't trust through email or social media and verify that the organization is registered in the Canada Revenue Agency Charity listings.
