Midwestern Ontario Ready To Send Fire Fighters To Fort McMurray

Midwestern Ontario is assembling a group of fire fighters to send to Fort McMurray if needed.

The plan started at Bruce Power and grew from there.

Goderich Fire Chief Steve Gardiner explains Fort McMurray already has fire fighters from all over Alberta, as well as B-C and Saskatchewan.   But he points out the longer the fire continues,  the greater the need for more fire fighters to come in and relieve the ones that are there.

Gardiner says they want to make sure if they do need fire fighters from other provinces Mid-Western Ontario has a team ready to go.   He received Goderich council's approval Monday night to cover the cost of lost wages for fire fighters from Goderich.

He says if Huron sends about fifteen fire fighters,  and Grey and Bruce come up with a similar number, that should give them a good group ready to head west.

Gardiner is hoping other muncipal councils will cover the lost wages of their local fire fighters who might be away from their regular jobs.
